To set an effective perimeter around your property, it does not require upgrading to commercial deer fencing. These typically use heavier grade netting or metal mesh with black polyethylene over-laying it. Electric fences are another option; though the deer may come to know they can dart between the strands and not be injured.

Affordable deer fencing is being designed to prevent deer from intruding unto your property and remain nearly invisible. As a rule-of-thumb, it has been found that a 7′ high fence will usually prevent the deer from jumping it. They lack depth perception because of the placement of their eyes and have a limited color spectrum – why they are most active at dawn and early evening. It is hard for them to distinguish between the dark fencing and the sky or tree lines. You might want to make sure you leave about 6″ of fencing lying on the ground to discourage them from crawling under it.
